ASU Launches Pitch Competition for Sports Tech Startups
Arizona State University has launched the Sun Devils Athletics’ Venture Challenge, a startup program seeking pitches from companies developing products that could be piloted and implemented at the school’s athletic facilities.
Starting Jan. 15, applicants can apply online to join the contest, which will conclude with a pitch day in April before a second application window opens in January 2022. The selected winner(s) of the challenge will receive promotional resources, mentorship, and up to $25,000 per year courtesy of ASU’s Global Sport Institute, and J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute.
“We are creating new entrepreneurial pathways not only for our athletes, but also the broader community of students, faculty members, and startups that are looking to innovate within sport-related markets,” Jeff Kunowski, associate director of innovation programs at ASU, said in a statement.
The SDA Venture Challenge is focused but not limited to startups working within venue innovation, immersive technology, fan engagement, and athlete performance. Winners will have the opportunity to deploy their products at ASU athletic facilities as early as this fall.
